A Man that has been true to Liberty for over 30 years? “Ron Paul is one of the outstanding leaders fighting for a stronger national defence. As a former Air Force officer, he knows well the needs of our armed forces, and he always puts them first. We need to keep him fighting for our country.” Ronald Reagan, US President “I strongly support Ron Paul, we very badly need to have more Representatives in the House who understand in a principled way the importance of property rights and religious freedom.” Milton Friedman, Nobel Prize economist “Ron Paul is the one exception to the Gang of 535.” William Simon, Secretary of Treasury “Rep. Paul has a record of philosophical consistency unmatched in recent congressional history. He seeks to limit government at practically every turn. His refusal to compromise is legendary.” John Brady and Bob McAdam, The Wall Street Journal “This courageous and quiet Congressman has made a worldwide name for himself as the defender of liberty in this country… a persistent fighter for the reduction of the power of bureaucrats everywhere… and one politician who cannot be bought by special interests.” Maxwell Newton, New York Post “You’re working for the most honest man in Congress.” John McCain (to Kent Snyder), 1988 The phrase “honest politician” is an oxymoron; yet in the sense that Paul never, ever votes against his stated principles — which are libertarian and include the belief that much of our federal government, from the IRS to the

Occupy Wall Street and Student Loans

According to Prof. Chris Coyne, one of the main concerns of the Occupy Wall Street movement is the rising cost of college and student loans. If student loans were forgiven, however, it wouldn’t solve the fundamental problem of costly education. A government program that forgave student loans would improve the finances of people holding student loans, but it would do so at the expense of taxpayers in America. Many of these taxpayers would fall within the 99%. Furthermore, by seeking bailouts for student loans, the Occupy Wall Street movement is fundamentally no different than the banks and corporations that they’re criticizing.

          Forgive Student Loans

The following description was taken from the actual petition hosted on SignOn.org signon.org Forgiving the student loan debt of all Americans will have an immediate stimulative effect on our economy. With the stroke of the President’s pen, millions of Americans would suddenly have hundreds, or in some cases, thousands of extra dollars in their pockets each and every month with which to spend on ailing sectors of the economy. As consumer spending increases, businesses will begin to hire, jobs will be created and a new era of innovation, entrepreneurship and prosperity will be ushered in for all. A rising tide does, in fact, lift all boats – forgiving student loan debt, rather than tax cuts for corporations, millionaires and billionaires, has a MUCH greater chance of helping to rise that tide in a MUCH shorter time-frame. The future economic success of this country is wholly dependent upon a well-educated, prosperous middle class. Instead of saddling entire generations with debt from which there is no escape, let’s empower the American people to grow this economy on their own! Therefore, we, the undersigned, strongly encourage Congress and the President to support H. Res 365, introduced by Rep. Hansen Clarke (D-MI), seeking student loan forgiveness as a means of economic stimulus. For over 30 years, the rich have gotten richer, the poor have gotten poorer, and the middle class is slowly but surely being squeezed out of existence. Instead of more of the same corporate

Reducing Your Student Loan Debt: Barack Obama’s plan to help College Student Loan Borrowers

Share this: my.barackobama.com Nearly six million students who have both guaranteed and direct loans will soon be able to refinance them and get a discount under President Barack Obama’s student loan debt reform plan: “Help Americans Manage Student Loan Debt”. You’ll only have to write one check a month and within a year it will ensure that more than 1.6 million college students won’t be required to make loan repayments over 10% of their income. President Obama’s plan will make college more affordable for students. All remaining debt is forgiven after 20 years of payments for college students. Debt is forgiven after 10 years for teachers, nurses, members of the armed forces, and others in public service careers. These are just some of the important repayment options designed to make student loan repayments more affordable. All of this progress builds off student loan reform President Obama signed into law in 2010. All of this progress makes sure that more students from working and middle class families can get college educations and the opportunities that come with them. Bankers don’t get to be middlemen for student loans anymore. We saved billion dollars by taking them out of the equation and a lot of the money is going towards loans and grants to make college more affordable for more people. Share this news and join the movement. President Obama needs your voice to be heard. He needs you to tell Congress that reforms like this are what we’re fighting for. Get the

                Recommendations for student loan consolidation?

I have some private (none Federal student loans) that I am looking to consolidate. My original lender was Sallie Mae, but their consolidation program is on hold citing the economy as the reason.

The only lender I can find still giving consolidation loans is Wells Fargo, but they require a co-signer, which I do not have.

Has anyone else recently consolidated some private (non-federal) loans? I have a good credit score, I just can’t find a lender that has not put their program on pause.
                thanks
I am looking for reputable lenders, its so hard to tell what reviews out there are fake and which are real.

Reading through a lot of similar questions I see that there are lots of scam artists out there trying to push their sketchy sites on people.

Please don’t be an asshole and only respond if you are an impartial party.

Hypothetically, if the economy was to crash to go into a Second Great Depression, what would happen to the distribution of student loans in a credit tight system? Would they go to the best/economically disadvantaged students first? How would it work?

Help! What are my private student loan consolidation options?

I have significant student loan debt. While I am currently awaiting approval for my federal student loan consolidation through a good company, my private student loan debt is just slowly multiplying. For the past few months, I have searched high and low for private student loan consolidation options, but apparently NOBODY offers private consolidation due to the "failing economy", as some Web sites put it.

For the past 60 days, I have spoken to Salle Mae dozens of times, attempting to get them to help me with some sort of payment plan that I am able to afford, but they refuse to make my monthly payments any less than 1/3 of my monthly income. While I wish I made enough money to pay that much alone with rent, utilities, and food, I unfortunately don’t I feel lucky to even have a job in this economy right now.

Sallie Mae has been harassing me for the past 30 days to pay my now-overdue loan, still refusing to make payments even remotely affordable for me. I receive from them 5-10 phone calls as well as 4-8 e-mails daily, and each time I have told them if I pay what they are forcing from me, I woudln’t have a place to live or food to eat, but their general reply is, "I’m sorry, then don’t pay."

This is my last resort, hoping somebody out there knows good ideas that would be willing to share them with me. If I don’t make a move soon, they are going to start garnishing what little wages I have. Does anybody have any useful information that could help me out? I’ve tried private student loan consolidation with Sallie Mae, AES, and multiple companies, but nobody seems to be doing it anymore.

why are most major banks suspending federal consolidation loan applications?

I am newly out of school and was looking to consolidate my outstanding federal student loans (just unsubsidized and subsidized Stafford Loans), but none of the major banks will accept new loan applications. That is including Sallie Mae, Chase, and Wells Fargo. What other options do I have? I prefer major banks, especially the way are economy is right now. How long would these programs be suspended?

Fallout on Main Street: College Debt 101 in Bloomington, Indiana

Is Sallie Mae poised to join Fannie Mae on the list of economic disaster stories? The rising cost of a university education combined with a flat job market is making it difficult for students and their families to pay off college loans. In Bloomington, Indiana many of those waiting tables and cleaning dishes at the famed Mother Bear’s Pizzeria are Indiana University students working their way through school. Catching the rare free moment between orders, workers describe the stress they are feeling in these rocky economic times. The recent credit crunch at the banks and the chaos on Wall Street has already added to their worries – undercutting family credit records, draining stock funds, and causing some students to question what the future will hold.

Are education loans effected by our economy problems as well as home loans and car loans?

I go to school online and I use education loans to pay for my education for the most part. Reporters talk about home forclosures due to loans and vehicle reposessions all the time, but I do not hear anything about education loans. Are education loans also affected by our slowing economy? I am worried if when I graduate, will I be able to afford the loans I took out for my education.

                                    STUDENT LOANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

Ok, I am going to be a sophomore in college this year at the University of Tennessee. Tuition, along with room and board, and a meal plan, is going to be approx. 14,000 for the year (Aug-May). I don’t qualify for federal aid, my parents make too much money, yet we can’t pay for my schooling. I did get ,500 in Stafford loans though. But even after that, I need about ,000 in additional private student loans to cover the rest after my scholarship.

I applied by myself and didn’t get approved because I don’t have any credit. My parents didnt get approved as cosigners, neither did my sisters (which got approved last year), or SEVEN other working people I tried. (a couple of which make k+ a year alone) I mean, really, what am I going to have to do to get an education? It shouldn’t be this hard!

And I know the economy sucks right now… but really?
