I have been following up with the Banks for education loans for a while now. They say that I am working in Pune and my father who would the coborrower is in Kolkata……they can’t consider such a case. They advertise a lot on all the mediums, but when it comes to servicing, believe me they are pathetic. What do I do?

Inspector General’s Office of the Department of Education apparently now operates similarly to SWAT. Kenneth Wright of Stockton California found himself face to face with this law enforcement unit, which operated similarly to SWAT in an all too violent way. He was woken up at 6am, dragged out of the house, and he and his 3 children were detained all because of overdue student loan payments!

Is this America? Or is this a “POLICE STATE!” What kind of Country is this? Am I living in America? My real question is, what kind of men would break into an American house over some foolishness like this? I’ll tell you what kind of man that will do it. Someone who has no honor or principles, but just wants a pay check. What will you do for money? Here comes the living in fear!!!

Can I take 2 education loans for college? From 2 separate banks.
1 bank offers only about a third of the total course fee, and my dad is willing to pay a third. But I dunno if I can take 2 at once..

Why aren’t education institutions held responsible for luring students into an enormous amount of debt? Knowing that there is no possible way to pay back the loans "easily? "
This is just as bad as the banks putting people in homes they knew they couldnt afford…
Why is this still happening?…and why don’t the schools recognize a student cannot afford an education at their campus?

Angry Repubs have lashed out against poor and middle class students last night by making them borrow from banks at a much higher interest rates for education loans, just so the Repubs can say they attacked the Health Care Reform Bill.
Is this the final end of the Republicans once and for all?

I am newly out of school and was looking to consolidate my outstanding federal student loans (just unsubsidized and subsidized Stafford Loans), but none of the major banks will accept new loan applications. That is including Sallie Mae, Chase, and Wells Fargo. What other options do I have? I prefer major banks, especially the way are economy is right now. How long would these programs be suspended?

Hi All
I was traveling one time and didn’t have a chance
to really look at Financial matters – it lead to a very
bad credit history. Adding to it I am very close to getting
my permanent residency, only then I ‘ll be eligible to get Federal loans.
I was wondering if there are banks or financial institutions which offer student loans to people with bad credit history and without a cosigner.
thanks

All these tax breaks and money given to banks with bad judgment calls. Why don’t they give us students a break on paying back student loans. Because of the student loans. I will never be able to afford a house.

I applied for a chase select loan today and my application was denied…I got a loan from them my last two years of college but since then my financial situation has changed.
I have a credit card that I’m a few payments behind on…I know…bad, but I’m starting a payment program on the card this month. But my cosigner has excellent credit.I don’t know if the credit card is the reason why I was denied, they wouldn’t tell me over the phone, I’m supposed to get a letter in about a week.
I’m already getting Stafford loans and NYS TAP grant. Without the loan, there’s no way I can pay for my education. So my question is do you guys know of any banks who are more lenient about the student’s credit. Would it help to discuss my situation with the bank?
Also NYS has another student loan called NYSHELP, does anyone have experience with that loan, do they expect your family’s income level to be pretty low?

I have bad credit and alot of student loans. I have thought of bankruptcy but that dosn’t cover my student loans does anyone know of any banks or credit unions that would give a loan big enough to pay off all of my debt so that I could make just one payment a month. I have tried a credit consolidation place a long time ago and they stole the 700 dollors that I sent to them so I will not do that again and like I said before I won’t file for bankruptcy. I don’t eat out I don’t smoke and I don’t drink starbucks. So please don’t tell me to live cheap.

I am a first year college student at Dartmouth College and have taken out a hefty amount of loans for my first year tuition. I know with the recent Wa Mu bankruptcy, that many other banks are in danger of following in Wa Mu’s footsteps. If by chance Citibank were to collapse what would become of my loans. And with our recent recession, how will I be affected in my ability to attain loans and secure a job post graduation?

Suze explains how student loan crisis is looming as the next big thing. She says the real estate implosion and banking crisis including the credit crunch have not yet been dealt with well. She implores Congress to head this one off at the pass as our young people are being saddled with compounding interest at such a rate that very quickly the loans become insurmountable. The show took place on 1/24/09.
